Accessibility

Students with disabilities, visible or hidden, can and do study abroad. Accommodations and accessibility will vary from location to location and culture to culture. Not all countries or cultures provide disability access in the same way to which you may be accustomed. It’s important to research your host location and talk to your Program Manager or Global Experiences Advisor to gain a clear understanding of the typical types of accommodations and services available. Be realistic, flexible and open to different accommodation possibilities that exist according to location.

Before you go

We recommend that you consider the following actions prior to your global education experience:
  • Contact the Office of Disability Resources and Services to determine reasonable accommodations and services that provide access to University classes, programs, and activities.
  • Research regulations regarding service and emotional support animals as you travel both domestically and abroad.
  • Discuss medications with your Global Experiences Advisor or Program Manager so you can familiarize yourself with drug regulations and policies while on your global education experience.
  • Learn the language of accessibility in your host location and acquaint yourself with the vocabulary you need to explain your needs to your hosts.
